PURE BULLDOG TENACITY WAS THE ONLY REASON I FINISHED THIS.
Why did I do this? Mardi Gras Marathon 6:17 - ugh, I'll take it, I'll take it.
Maybe I shouldn't have done a marathon 6 weeks after the Houston one?
Maybe because I had the flu 2 weeks prior and still was coughing up crud that week? Maybe because I read a book about serial killers the night before?
My half-way split was almost exactly like Houston, which means the extra 40 minutes were all in the second half!
I knew I was in trouble when I started wheezing about mile 4. Then I felt pooped out at mile 11. I felt a little energized after hitting 13.1, but it was a struggle from then on. I walked a lot. The course wasn't as fun as I expected. I figured since it was New Orleans, there would all sorts of bands on the route and kooky people. Not really, not at all - even when we ran through the French Quarter. That post-Saturday night Bourbon street stale alcohol and vomit smell was a joy to run through.
But I'm glad I did it. My brother in law and his brother ran the half marathon. My sister dropped us off and they all waited at the end. Since it was a smaller race, the announcer could call out each person's name as they crossed the finish line, so that was cool. So even though I ran like crap, overall it was a more fun experience.
Brad, Leo and Me. Hey Leo, get your own medal!
With my brother Tom and sister. Foie gras appetizer.
We went to dinner at Marigny Brasserie.
Fried green tomatoes with lump crabmeat. Duck leg over gouda grits and spinachuhm, what was left of dessert - apple pie with ice cream.

I can not believe we missed you! Congrats on the finish, every one counts.

Endurance sports is ALL about bulldog tenacity! That's the only thing we have going! Congrats on finishing another marathon. That's a big accomplishment and another notch, no matter the time.
